【Int'l】OIA reminder: 180 days waiting period for applying NHI (For students enrolled in or after 2013 Spring semester)

Dear all:

Summer Vacation is just around the corner. Some of you may have considered leaving Taiwan during the summer, please allow us to remind you again about the NHI (National Health Insurance) regulation.

According to the new NHI regulation that took effect on January 1, 2013, you need to stay in Taiwan for at least 180 days (six calender months) continuously in order to be valid for applying NHI. The starting date for the waiting period is the date your ARC is issued.

During the 180 days waiting period, you are allowed to leave Taiwan once for no more than 30 days. In this case, your waiting period won't get recounted, just being postponed.

If you leave Taiwan for more than 30 days or more than once during the waiting period, your 180 days will be recounted. You have to pay for the private medical insurance fees when you return.

If you plan to leave Taiwan during this summer for more than 30 days or more than once, please notify us so we can handle your insurance process to protect your right, thank you.

Yours truly,
