1. Introduction

The English Language Institute (ELI) at Texas A&M University-Commerce is a program for international students who do not meet the language proficiency score of the university they wish to attend. In the ELI, international students:

• Receive high quality instruction in the English Language
• Gain the knowledge to pass the TOEFL or IELTS tests
• Upon acceptance, can go straight into Texas A&M University-Commerce
• Learn how the world of U.S. education works and what is expected of students
• Become immersed in American culture in an encouraging, non-stressful manner
• Learn in smaller classes and receive closer attention from highly qualified instructors

3. Apply to the ELI

Applicants to the ELI must submit a completed application along with all supporting documents and the required application fee. All documents must be submitted by the deadline for the term the student is applying for. Late applications will be applied to the following semester.

4. Limited Conditional Admission Letter

An admitted student may receive a letter of limited conditional acceptance and through the ELI students work toward admission to the university. ELI students interested in academic study must apply to A&M Commerce. The application will be reviewed for admission upon successful completion of the ELI program. Please remember that the ELI application is separate from the University application process.
